Design & Setup - Ring Video Doorbell wireless IP doorbell from Ring supports Wi-Fi and is aesthetically smart-looking. The doorbell measures 12.65 X 6.17 X 2.21 cm with a compact appearance but a bit larger than the usual doorbells. This Wi-Fi doorbell is made up of a black plastic material in the upper half whereas the bottom portion is metallic and various options are available for it like Antique Brass, Satin Nickel, Venetian Bronze and Polished Brass. Ring Video Doorbell doorbell supports a wireless connectivity of 802.11 b/g/n on 2.4 GHz band.

It is a DIY kind of device and easy to install. A mounting plate of dimensions 4.9X2.4 is provided along with the doorbell which is needed for its setup. A toolkit is also provided which will have all the requirements to setup the doorbell so that you can do it all by yourself. The Ring Video Doorbell has been tested and found to perform at a temperature range of -5 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Thus the setup is quite flexible and easy. The app setup is very easy too. All you have to do is download the Ring app, create an account and click on “Setup Device”. After that you have to name your device and also state the setup location. Then you have to put your doorbell in the setup mode and go for wi-fi setup. For that you just need to connect your doorbell to the Wi-Fi. For Android devices, the wi-fi setup will occur automatically but for iPhone and iPad, you have to select the Wi-Fi option from Settings and then select the network whose name starts with “Ring”. Then you just have to enter your wi-fi password and your setup is ready.

Video Quality and Coverage - The Ring Video Doorbell has 1280X720-pixel camera and has a field of view of 180 degrees horizontal and the vertical field of view is 140 degrees. The camera streams recording in 720p at 15 fps, but there are other models that can stream at 1080p. For enabling a prominent night vision, the camera has infrared LEDs just above the lens. The wide angle of view of 180 coupled with its ability to show a detailed footage which is enough to serve the purpose.

Convenience & Accessibility - With the remote viewing feature of this Ring Video Doorbell you can easily see who is standing at your front door no matter where you are. This will prevent you from opening the door to strangers or someone you feel would be unsafe. The cloud storage of this doorbell comes with a 30-days free trial plan after which you will have to pay $3 per month to continue enjoying the storage. And if you subscribe for the entire year, it will cost you $30 which is more profitable. Though the doorbell is not compatible with web browser support, it works flexibly with both Android and iOS devices. The app is quite easy to use but it’s not much flashy. You will not get the on-demand video feature with this doorbell.

Alerts - When someone at the door presses the doorbell button, your Smartphone will start ringing immediately and you will be alerted that someone is at your door. If you tap that notification, you will get to see who has come and you will even get an option of either accepting or denying a call.With the help of the two-way-talk feature you would be able to communicate with the person standing at the door. When someone doesn’t press the doorbell but keep standing at your door, you will get a notification for that too and if this is not enough, you can enjoy a motion detection feature with adjustable sensitive zones. The motion detection of this Ring Video Doorbell is commendable and it does not give false notifications.

HA Platform - This doorbell camera integrates with Nest Home Automation platform devices like Nest thermostats or security cameras etc., so if you are an advanced user you can be assured to have interoperability with existing system.

Price - Keeping in mind all the features that you are getting at $199, this Ring Video Doorbell is quite good but the costly subscription plan dulls the picture slightly. And if you are not willing to keep such a costly thing outside your door, just remember Ring promises to replace it in case of theft.
