FLIR FX Wi-Fi Wireless 1080P HD Video Monitoring Indoor Security Camera Features

Design & Setup - FLIR has been able to stuff a lot of features into a very small package. This has ultimately resulted in FLIR FX being probably the most modular multi-use indoor security camera in the consumer market. If you go an extra mile and spend some bucks on appropriate accessories, then this modular camera has the capability to present itself as an outdoor surveillance camera, a GoPro-like action camera, or a dashboard cam. However, when tested just for indoor surveillance, this camera was able to impress with its array of features.

The FLIR FX indoor security camera comes on a detachable stand, and the power cable can be connected to the base (detachable stand) or directly to the camera, which actually serves well for its mobility. It is also equipped with two internal batteries; one goes in the camera and the other in the stand. The batteries give a combined support for four hours, providing a better mobility or serving during a power outage.

Installation & Performance - Installation is easy. You have to plug in the camera and wait for around 30 minutes to charge, as per the written instructions. Next, download the app and create an account using your email address and a password. You have to select “Add a Camera” option and use the QR code scanner to scan the code on the FLIR's base. The app will instruct you to connect to the camera's WiFi SSID, then return to the app to select your wireless router. After entering your WiFi password, you will be connected to the device within 20-30 secs.

As FLIR FX indoor security camera is enhanced with 1080p streaming, the daytime videos are captured in rich, vibrant colors. The black-and-white night videos are clean, with good image detail. The humidity and temperature sensors are impressively accurate, and the notifications were promptly delivered.

Field of View - FLIR FX indoor security camera offers a generous 160-degree viewing angle, where you will get a full view of the room without any warping.

Night Vision - FLIR FX has 6 IR LEDs that supports for a “night vision” up to about 30 feet of perimeter, a feature that will prove to be useful during low-light or no-light conditions.

Detection of Motion & Sound - Making it stand out from the rest of its comparative product, FLIX FX can detect sound apart from detecting motion. You have the full freedom to set it up in a way that either type, sound or motion, will trigger a video recording. FLIR FX app employs FLIR’s SmartZone technology, which helps to reduce false alerts. This innovative technology lets you designate monitoring areas on a grid that overlays the video. Movements in any one of these zones will ultimately trigger a recording and push an alert signal to your mobile device. However, any motion outside the specified area will be ignored by the camera.

Resolution - Keeping in mind the competitive market and the growing technological demands, FLIR FX indoor security camera can record videos in 1080p resolution, even though it streams in 720p.

Storage - The FLIR FX indoor security camera comes with an 8GB microSD card (expandable up to 64 GB) which helps to store the recorded videos locally in the device itself, if in any case the connection to the cloud is lost. You will also get free cloud storage that holds your videos up to a maximum of two days. You can store three RapidRecap clips with a maximum recap of six hours.

WiFi Capability - Unlike other video cameras that send footages over wires, FLIR FX sends its footages over your WiFi network. FLIR FX uses your WiFi network to let you view live streams if you are located within 500 feet or within the range of your WiFi router. FLIR FX gives you direct WiFi access to your live feed and videos on SD card. But if you move past the WiFi range, the connection switches over to FLIR’s cloud servers, making a seamless transition, without creating any trouble for the users.

Rapid Recap - If there is an USP of FLIR FX indoor security camera then it must certainly be this feature. RapidRecap helps you to keep an eye on the secured footages of your home or offices, but doesn’t make it boring by going through hours and hours of useless footages. With this feature, you can view everything that happened during the day in just one minute. Yes, it is true. RapidRecap technology superimposes different clips, giving each element its own timestamp. For instance, a person came into view at 2:20 pm, while a car passes at 4:30 pm, RapidRecap will show you both the person and the car with their respective timestamps in a single frame. This is a massive development in terms of time management and efficiency as they will give you the power to maintain an eye over security without losing much of your time.

Smart Zone - Another feature that has made FLIR FX indoor security camera one of the most sought out surveillance cameras of 2017 is SmartZone. SmartZone Alerts allow you to choose the areas that matter most to you. When any kind of movement is sensed in these areas, the camera will automatically start recording and you will get an alert on your smartphone or tablet, where you have the camera tied in with the FLIR FX app. This helps you to prioritize the areas in your home. Suppose you have a locker in your bedroom or you are worried about your baby sleeping in the next room, then you can include them as your SmartZone. This would obviously reduce the chances of false alarms that you may get otherwise. Take this case for example, suppose you have a toddler playing in the living room. You can set up your FLIX FR to alert you when there is a movement in the stairs. So if your toddler tries to climb up the stairs, you will be instantly alerted.

Smartphone App - To be with the advancing world, indoor security camera FLIR FX is confidently providing its share with its fully enabled smartphone and tablet app. The device can be fully accessed and controlled through this app. FLIR FX has also revealed that a web portal is also in the works. When you access the app a thumbnail image of the room, which is being monitored appears on the home screen. When you tap the “more” menu on a bar above this image, it opens a drop-down menu which is fairly geared with FLIR FX’s features like, RapidRecaps, view recordings, and turn notifications on and off.

It can be ascertained that the app is pretty intuitive. You can go to the camera’s live feed by tapping on the thumbnail image. There are two buttons that appear beneath the feed window – “Actions” and “Recording”. Pressing the “actions” button will lead you to a radial menu with options to (again) create RapidRecaps, or use the mic, or take a snapshot of the feed and save or share it, or you can even access settings such as night vision and sound and motion sensitivity.

The Recording button, as can be deduced, opens its own radial menu from which you can stop and start recording and activate/deactivate sound and motion-triggered recording.

As you can see, the app helps you to control the FLIR FX Indoor Security Camera with a good interface that is easy to access and quite simple to handle. You don’t need to know rocket science to move swiftly through this app and that comes as an added advantage.

Cost - The FLIR FX indoor security camera is retailed at $199.99 in the US. An upgraded version which meets IP66 weatherproof standards and other outdoor enclosures is sold at $299.99. For $9.99/month or $99.99/year you get seven days of storage with unlimited RapidRecap with an eight-hour capture limit.
